The Investigator is running an exciting new two day CPD workshop that is aimed at operational investigators who
are involved in the investigation of major or serious and complex crime. The workshop is ideal for new to role
investigators as well as established investigators who want to remain up to date with current policy, procedure
and best practice.
It will be led by highly experienced former Met SIO and trainer, Matt Bonner who retires from the force this year as
a Detective Superintendent after 30 years service. Matt will draw on real life case studies and his experience as a
leading SIO and combine this with his expertise as an established trainer who has provided training from all
investigative ranks from DC to PIP4 SIOs.
Matt is passionate about supporting and encouraging officers on their own journey along the ‘detective pathway’
and helping them to achieve their individual goals.
Our event will provide investigators with the opportunity to interact with Matt and benefit from his impressive
operational experience as well as develop and refresh their knowledge around the key aspects and principles of
Major or Serious and Complex Investigations.
The two days will cover:

• Conducting an effective investigation (proactive considerations, witness/suspect strategies and search strategies

About or expert speaker Matt Bonner
Matt completed 30 years service with the Met this year as a Detective Superintendent where for the last four years, as the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO), he had the privilege of leading the Criminal Investigation following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower in 2017.This investigation has been described as one of the largest and most complex ever undertaken by the Met outside of Counter Terrorism.
He is an accredited (PIP 3) SIO and (PIP 4) Strategic Investigator and served in the Met’s Homicide and Serious Crime command for ten years as an SIO. During that time, he led numerous high profile and other complex homicide investigations to successful conclusions.
Alongside his role as an operational detective, he has also supported the delivery of detective training throughout his career. This has included delivering inputs on DC/DS and DI courses, leading on the delivery of SIO training for the Met and assisting the College of Policing with the national delivery of the PIP4 Strategic Investigator Course. Matt has also delivered bespoke training inputs internationally to investigative teams in Abu Dhabi, Norway and Holland.
Prior to his service with the Met, he served with Hertfordshire Constabulary where he led on the development and implementation of an innovative approach to priority crime investigation and offender management and then subsequently supported the Police Service of Northern Ireland to successfully introduce a similar approach to policing.
