Understanding contemporary extremist groups and their ideologies, 15 July 2024

 

  • Equips all investigators and analysts with a working knowledge of some of the current extremist groups and their ideologies.

 

  • Provides all investigators and analysts, whatever their rank or role with a deep dive into the fundamental aspects of extremist ideology to help inform their operational work.

 

  • Offers expert insight into the groups, movements and individuals that champion them.

 

  • It will be delivered by an expert from the Counter Extremism Education Hub who is a subject matter expert with over a decade of experience studying, researching, and investigating terrorist ideologies, groups and movements. 

 

  • Our workshop is a stand-alone workshop that is aimed at all investigators and analysts but if you require more in-depth training then the workshop will enable you to connect with our expert from the Counter Extremist Education Hub and find out more about follow-up training.

 

  • Held online via Teams

 

The workshop will include an overview of the following groups and their ideologies in order to inform investigators of current best practice that could prove vital in an investigation.

 

  • Introduction to Islamist Terrorism

 

  • Introduction to Extreme Right-Wing Terrorism 

 

  • Hamas – An Overview of its Current Threat and What Support for the Group Looks Like at Protests

 

  • Signs, Symbols and Imagery in Right-Wing Extremism (RWE)

9.50am-10.20am: Session One: An overview of some of the current threats from terrorist and extremist groups in the UK and internationally, with a focus on Islamist terrorism.

 

10.20am-11am: Session Two: Overview of right-wing terrorist and extremist groups in the UK and the threat they pose.

 

11am-11.30am: Break

 

11.30am-12.10pm: Session Three: Overview of Hamas and what support for the group looks like at protests

 

12.10pm-12.20pm: Questions from the morning session

 

12.20pm-12.50pm: Break

 

12.50pm-1.30pm: Session Four: Signs, Symbols and Imagery in Right-Wing Extremism (RWE)
