INTERNET INVESTIGATIONS SERIES: Internet Searching Techniques workshop - 10 November 2022

 

A one-day practical online workshop aimed at providing operational investigators, analysts and all frontline staff from police and other public bodies who conduct investigations with a working knowledge of internet searching techniques.

 

Our interactive workshop will provide delegates with the golden rules for the most effective searching techniques to use when conducting your internet investigations.

 

This will include:

  • Use of Advanced Searching Techniques

  • Use of Wild Cards and Viewing Cached Pages

  • Searching For Information on people, telephone numbers, addresses and more

 

The day will also focus on the most effective Search Engines to use as alternatives to Google in your investigations, which will enable you to conduct more rapid and accurate searches. This will include use of;

  • Bing

  • Yandex

  • Baidu

  • Privacy based search engines

The ability to competently conduct effective internet searches in now a key skill that all investigators need to possess.

 

The internet contains a wealth of information about suspects, witnesses and victims that could prove vital to your investigation and transform the outcome of your case. It is vital tool in the armour of all investigators and not just those working in specialist units.

 

The world of the internet is an ever-changing and evolving landscape with new sites appearing not just in the UK but internationally and so it’s vital that all investigators have a working knowledge of how to maximise evidential opportunities from internet investigations.

 

It also important to receive expert advice on how to glean this information in a legal and ethical way, while at the same time paying particular attention to your own digital footprint to avoid compromising your safety and the integrity of the investigation.

 

Our expert

Our workshop will be led by established open-source trainer, speaker and investigator Neil Smith and aims to equip delegates with a working knowledge of all the tools and techniques available for conducting effective social media investigations that are ethical and legally sound.

 

If you are a new to role open-source investigator or are more established in the role then this would also be the ideal refresher to help keep you updated with new sites and searching techniques.
