Analysis in Action: Leadership in high stakes contexts for current and aspiring analyst managers, 26 February 2026

 

This exclusive workshop explores analyst’s leadership in high-stakes contexts, to include decision making, prioritisation, communication, wellbeing and debriefing and organisational learning post-event.

Operational analysis often takes place in high-pressured and time critical situations, which require considered leadership by analytical and intelligence managers to enable analysts to both deliver and thrive within a stressful environment.

The workshop is aimed at current and aspiring analyst managers seeking to develop their leadership knowledge and skills but will also be relevant to anyone leading in an operational law enforcement capacity.

It is led by Naomi Davis-Crane, previously a Head of Analysis in Counter Terrorism Policing, Naomi is now a Senior Lecturer in Policing at Liverpool John Moores University and actively researching leadership and organisational dynamics in law enforcement.

 

The session will take place via MS Teams and include:

Decision Making and Prioritisation

  • Reactions to stress: understanding the body’s response to stressful situations and their implications for decision making.

  • Heuristic traps: exploring cognitive fallacies which have the potential to adversely impact upon decisions.

  • Prioritisation frameworks: providing structures to assist with prioritisation in highly pressured environments.

 

Communication

  • Stakeholders: prioritising stakeholders for communication.

  • Dialogue: enabling multi-way information exchange and collaborative working.

  • Active listening: asking questions and engaging with the response.

  • Clarity: clear communication by a variety of means.

  • Voice: empowering others to provide a perspective.

 

Well-being

  • Risks: understanding the major well-being risks and their manifestation amongst individuals and teams.

  • Managing well-being: identifying the actions you can take to support individual and team well-being in the short, medium and long-term.

  • Personal resilience: reflecting on your own well-being needs in high-pressure situations, to include prioritising and balancing these against the demands of the role.

 

Debriefing and Organisational Learning

  • Learning organisations: examining the key features of learning organisations and the opportunities presented.

  • Debriefing: applying the concept of organisational learning to the debriefing process.

  • Critical reflection: evaluating your own performance.

  • Preparation: using the learning to develop future strategy.
