Introduction to hardware hacking and reverse engineering of digital devices, 21 October 2026
An exclusive introductory workshop led by Joe Grand from the US, the world-renowned ethical hardware hacker and computer engineer.
Joe, also known as ‘Kingpin’, is providing investigator subscribers with a rare opportunity to attend this online workshop that explores the hardware hacking process and the possibilities that exist to reverse engineer, manipulate, and compromise electronic devices.
It combines material from Joe Grand's Hardware Hacking Basics training course and his most popular hardware hacking presentations. Joe will provide live demonstrations of hardware hacking tools and techniques.
It is aimed at digital forensics staff, digital media investigators and investigators who want to gain a sound introduction into some of the key issues and techniques around hardware hacking. It serves as a gateway to Joe’s longer courses that he delivers both independently and with organisations including the Netherlands Forensic Institute.
The workshop is intended to lay the foundation into the world of hardware hacking and reverse engineering. No prior hardware, electronics, or security knowledge is required. All teaching and best practice is legal and ethical and is inline with current UK guidance around the legal extraction of data from electronic devices.
The content includes an overview of the following elements that are covered in more detail in Joe’s training courses:
-
The hardware hacking process
-
Tools and test measurement equipment
-
Soldering and desoldering
-
Circuit board reverse engineering and modification
-
Signal identification and monitoring
