An introduction to conducting Dark Web investigations, operational best practice and contemporary issues for investigators and analysts, 31 March 2025

 

  • A one-day workshop that provides investigators and analysts with an introduction to investigating crimes on the Dark Web.

 

  • It is aimed at investigators with no previous experience of Dark Web investigators or more experienced investigators who want to refresh existing skills

 

  • The day will equip delegates with the basic skills needed to investigate crimes on the Dark Web.

 

  • The growth in serious criminality on the Dark Web makes it imperative for all investigators to have a working knowledge around how to conduct effective investigations in an ethically sound manner that protects your own digital footprint and avoids compromising your investigation.

 

  • It will be led by Richard Foster, a former investigator with 30 years’ experience with Hampshire Constabulary and the Southeast Regional Organised Crime Unit. Richard is highly proficient at conducting complex investigations on the Dark Web and is now a trainer and speaker delivering courses and lectures in cyber investigations and the Dark Web.

  • ethically sound manner in your investigations.

Basic searching techniques and how to access the Dark Web safely without compromising your own safety. Search engines that will help conduct effective searches on the Dark Web. How to turn off images on the browser to avoid downloading IIOC. Legal considerations, issues around covert authority

1pm-2pm: Session Three – Basic investigation techniques and how to use Dark Web intelligence in an ethically sound manner in your investigations including legal implications, building credibility and how to check credibility of others.
